Bookkeeping, BAS & payroll

Franchise bookkeeping, BAS and payroll you don’t have to think about.

Weekly reconciliations, GST and BAS, Single Touch Payroll and Payday Super — handled by people who know how franchise POS, supplier and royalty transactions should land in your books.

Quick answer

What bookkeeping does a franchise need?

A franchise needs the same core bookkeeping as any business — bank reconciliation, supplier bills, sales, GST and payroll — plus a few franchise-specific steps: matching point-of-sale takings to deposits, recording royalties and levies against the sales they were calculated on, coding supplier rebates and franchisor charges correctly, and, for multi-site operators, tagging every transaction to a location. Done weekly, it keeps BAS, payroll and franchisor reporting accurate.

The weekly rhythm

Small, regular, accurate.

  1. Reconcile

Bank feeds, POS settlements and merchant fees matched every week.

  2. Code

Supplier bills, franchisor charges and rebates coded to the right account and site.

  3. Pay

Payroll processed, reported through STP and super paid each payday.

  4. Lodge

BAS and IAS prepared from reconciled books and lodged on time.

Payroll in a franchise

Payroll is where most risk sits.

For most franchisees, wages are the largest controllable cost and the biggest compliance exposure. Awards, penalty rates, junior rates and rostering changes make it easy to get wrong — and underpayments are increasingly visible to regulators and franchisors alike.

We set up and run payroll so that pay rates, allowances and leave follow the applicable award, Single Touch Payroll reports are lodged each pay run, and superannuation is paid on time.

Payday SuperFrom 1 July 2026, employers must pay super guarantee contributions each payday, and contributions generally need to reach the employee’s fund within 7 business days (20 business days for a new employee’s first contribution). For a store paying weekly, that means more than 50 super payments a year instead of four. Source: ATO. See our Payday Super checklist for franchise employers.

We can process payroll and check it against the award classifications you give us. Award interpretation and workplace relations advice should come from the Fair Work Ombudsman or an employment adviser.

Bookkeeping FAQs

Bookkeeping, BAS & payroll questions

Can you work with my franchisor’s mandated software?

Yes. Many networks require a specific point-of-sale, rostering or accounting platform. We work within those systems and set up integrations so data flows into your accounts with as little manual entry as possible.

How often should franchise books be reconciled?

Weekly is best for most stores. It keeps cash visible, catches POS and banking discrepancies while they’re still easy to trace and makes BAS and royalty reporting straightforward.

Do you handle Payday Super?

Yes. We set up payroll so super is calculated and paid each payday, monitor for rejected or late contributions and report through Single Touch Payroll.

Can you take over from my current bookkeeper?

Yes. We’ll review the file, fix any historical issues we find and agree a clean handover date so nothing falls between providers.
